THE POSTPARTUM DOULA

 

Even for the most experienced parents, bringing home a new baby means changing routines, dividing time and just trying to figure out how to juggle it all. If mom has had a cesarean delivery or any other birth complications, it can make the transition to home even more challenging. The problem that many families encounter is finding the help they need to support them through these first few weeks. Getting this assistance can help prevent exhaustion and the occurrence of postpartum mood disorders.

The Postpartum Doula offers support in the areas of baby-feeding support, mother care, baby care and home management to help the new parents ease the transition from life before to life with the new baby. The need for support doesn’t end after birth.  The Postpartum Doula does whatever the new mother needs to best enjoy her baby. 

More and more families are asking for Postpartum Doula services as a shower or baby gift. This is especially helpful when there is little or no family support nearby.

Services

 

As Postpartum Doula I help families welcome their newest member to a calm and loving home. I provide breastfeeding and infant care support and assistance, as well as a wide range of help to keep the household running smoothly during the period following birth. I offer informational, emotional, physical and practical support through:

 

  • help with breastfeeding

  • help with the practicalities of formula feeding

  • help with baby care

  • help with older children

  • help with cooking and light housework

  • providing information and instruction on relaxation

  • providing information on postpartum comfort measures

  • providing information on postpartum nutrition

I am  available for night time help to give you and your partner more uninterrupted sleep. 

There is no set time how often or long I am hired to help. It depends on the needs and wishes of the individual family. Doula support can last anywhere from one or two visits to more than three months.
